Come out to support Straight Talk Support Group at 6:30pm October 24th 2014 at the Durham Convention Center at the Durham City Center Marriott.
We will be screening the award-winning film middle of nowhere, which tells the story of Ruby, a medical student who drops out of school to focus on her recently incarcerated husband’s well-being. The film was written and directed by Ava DuVernay, who was the first African-American woman to win the Best Director Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. You can learn more about the film here: http://www.middlenowhere.com/
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets, over the phone, or at the door. Proceeds from the event will support Straight Talk’s ongoing efforts to provide services for the friends and family members of individuals in prison or jail. Specifically, money raised from the middle of nowhere fundraiser will help Straight Talk build a resource center for families dealing with the incarceration of a loved one, fund our share-a-ride program, operate our crisis line, and develop our programming.
For more information on these elements of Straight Talk, please see our “About” page. Straight Talk has grown substantially over the past year, and your ticket purchase will help us fund our extended efforts.
